Is Artificial Intelligence really dangerous?

Living in the millennia, we assume that most of you have a basic understanding about state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence Technology. In fact, starting from Siri to smart driving vehicles, AI has powered most of the products we utilize in our day-to-day lives. However, as AI technology is still evolving, its full potential is yet to be discovered. In fact, it may take years to comment on the true capacity of AI, after it has fully evolved.

However, experts express their idea as to how AI imparts certain dangers to mankind, even at its present stage of development. Especially, they view that integrating AI in various industries should be done carefully, by assessing the aftermath, so as to keep their irreparable consequences at bay. So, from today’s blog, let’s discuss the dangers of AI!

Nowadays AI is used in multiple industries such as manufacturing, automotive, construction, etc. to automate a variety of business functions. However, this automation has made advanced machines replace various job roles of human beings.

According to a recent study done by the Brookings institution in 2019, about 36 million of the global population engage in jobs that are highly prone to automation. In fact, this study has also revealed that about 70 percent of their occupational tasks would be done by AI, in the years to come. Therefore, we can see that AI set forth a substantial danger to humans when it comes to their job opportunities.

Apart from that, AI brings a significant threat to the low-skilled and less-educated workers employed in various industries. In fact, most of the predictive and repetitive tasks carried out by these human workers are easily replaced by AI-powered machines. However, as AI is still in the process of development, certain job roles of skilled and educated workers are safe at the moment. Therefore, it is crystal clear that widening economic inequality is another threat brought by AI, when taken in terms of the society we all live in.

Moreover, another significant danger posed by AI can be viewed in light of privacy and security issues. In fact, deep fakes have emerged as a trend by harming people’s privacy so much. In this synthetic media, an existing image or a video of a particular person is replaced with someone else’s face, who may have a similar look. Therefore, the reputation of famous people such as celebrities, politicians, sportsmen, etc. is really at stake in the hands of these deepfakes, whereas their faces are used to create various inappropriate content such as content for adults.

Also, researchers suggest that AI can bring a significant impact when it comes to the Arms industry. In fact, they contend that lethal autonomous weapons such as AI-guided missiles would someday become dangerous for mankind, as they can independently search and engage for the targets by basing on the pre-programmed descriptions.

Especially, they argue that if these devices fall into the wrong hands, the end result would be destructive beyond someone’s imagination. Above all, as this new technology has a huge possibility to create a new international arms race, it is important to analyze to what extent this technology should be applied in the arms industry, thereby reducing the detrimental impacts to the whole of mankind.

After learning about all these facts, do you think that humans would be able to reverse these adversities brought by AI one day? Or should we stop further integrating AI in the aforementioned areas?
